FBI's LEEP Portal Sent Fake Cybersecurity Alerts
November 15, 2021 - The FBI confirmed that unknown threat actors breached one of its email servers and sent fake message about a fake "sophisticated chain attack". The breach took place at the Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP), or a secure platform for law enforcement agencies, intelligence groups, and criminal justice entities to provide web-based investigative tools and analytical resources, and the networking it supports.
The hoax message was first detected by SpamHaus along with a detailed confirmed examination of the message headers.
According to Krypos Logic researcher Marcus Hutchins, the goal of the breach is to discredit Vinny Troia of Nightlion Security.
