Banco Estado Bank, one of the three largest banks in Chile, had to shut down its nationwide business on the 7th due to a cyber attack by REvil ransomware. A team of Microsoft security experts took action to try to recover the systems and resume the bank’s operations. As of September 11, approximately 350 branches had been reopened, with the expectation of a full recovery of operations by the following days. However, the consequences of the cyberattack are clear: loss of revenue (and probably customers), in addition to reputational damage and possible penalties for the incident.
